SHEILA‘S PRINCIPLES

1)  BE POSITIVE: You will learn the step! Don’t spend time saying “I can’t”. If you say “I can”, then you will!

2)  PATIENCE: Have patience with yourself, as the teachers will have patience with you. Have patience with yourself and trust that you will learn and understand the dance, even when certain steps are hard.

3)  PERSISTANCE: Don’t give up! Keep on going! There is so much to learn! Irish dance is an art that will bring you great joy as you learn it, master it and then share it with others. Whatever your goals and dreams are for Irish dance, I will be there to help you achieve them.

4)  PLEASURE: Smile! Have fun and enjoy Irish Dance! Teach your Mom a step or two! Go to a Feis and put your best foot forward! Perform at a Tully show and share your gift of dance. When you become a Tully dancer, your will not only learn to dance with your feet but also learn to dance with your fingers, as we show you how to recite the steps in your hands. Always remember the Sheila Tully stories we share in class and never forget to take pride in your performance, no matter where you are!

5)  PRACTICE: Always practice at home with your soft or hard shoes on, wearing your poodle socks and play the music for the dance you are practicing. Do steps in front of a mirror if you can. Hopping around the house is just hopping! Work on the steps as they have been taught to you between classes so you come back to class having practiced and polished what you learned that week.

6)  PERSONALITY: Be your own person and not who you think others want you to be. You are welcomed for who you are and will learn that Tully Academy will help you grow and develop yourself through Irish Dance. You will learn through your individual dance, your friendships, and your teamwork.

Irish Dance requires great discipline, memorization, practice, and a willingness to work hard through the process.
